First visited by the Spanish in the 1500's, Dungeness and the surrounding area awaits discovery by you. Rich in natural wonders, unique flora and fauna and diverse wilderness environments offer many day trip possibilities. The wild coast and rain forest, the rugged Hurricane Ridge offers pristine hiking trails, hot springs, crystalline lakes, waterfalls and much more. The Victorian seaport of Port Townsend is nearby and a short ferry ride takes you to Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. ( Bring a birth certificate or passport for travel to Canada.)
All that, plus the beautiful Dungeness Bay is at your doorstep. The bay is a national wildlife refuge, home to more than 330 species and is the longest natural sand spit in the country. Many of our guests hike the 6 miles out to its end to tour the second oldest (1857) lighthouse in the northwest. Imagine exploring the bay or making your visit to the lighthouse in a kayak! Perhaps an afternoon river rafting or fly fishing? Take a boat trip in search of scenery, salmon or orca whales! Bring your bike (or rent one). Our area, where pasture and old barns meet miles of shoreline, is really ideal. Just minutes away are restaurants, three year-round golf courses, several award winning wineries and much more. We'll be happy to share information, maps, tips and "local secrets" to help make your visit special!
